Mutu’s AI-powered Mutu Vision reduces admin time by more than 85%

Mutu has launched Mutu Vision, a new AI powered equipment detection feature designed to make adding tools and equipment to a Mutu register faster and more accurate.
Mutu already helps construction businesses improve equipment utilisation, track accurate locations and manage maintenance schedules. But all of these capabilities depend on one thing happening first: the equipment actually being recorded in Mutu. Until gear is entered into the platform, none of these benefits can be realised.
For many construction businesses, this first step is the hardest part. Equipment is often purchased by different teams, delivered directly to project sites, or moved between locations before it has been properly recorded, leaving registers incomplete and out of date.
Mutu Vision allows a business to capture what it owns simply by taking a photograph, making it easy to get equipment into the platform so Mutu’s full functionality can take over from there.
Rather than entering equipment details manually, users can photograph an item or upload an existing image. Mutu Vision then analyses the image using a purpose built AI model and automatically identifies:
- Equipment or item name
- Brand
- Model
The user reviews the detected information, adds any further details required, and saves the item directly into Mutu. Users can also photograph a serial plate or sticker to import that information automatically. Combined with the Mutu Asset Tag generator, this means a new piece of equipment, complete with all associated information, can be added to the platform in under one minute.
Early onsite testing has shown this reduces the time required to add equipment to Mutu by more than 85 percent, resulting in less administrative work and fewer data entry errors.
Once equipment is in Mutu, the platform’s other capabilities, improved utilisation, accurate location tracking and proactive maintenance become available immediately.
Mutu Vision has been built entirely in house, using a custom AI model developed by Mutu and trained on the company’s significant experience and data within the construction sector, making it a capability unique to Mutu. This reflects Mutu’s broader commitment to helping construction businesses automate resource and equipment management. How to use Mutu Vision
- Open Mutu and click the green “+Add” button.
- Select Bookable Equipment.
- Click Add Photo using Mutu Vision
- Take a new photo of the equipment or upload an existing image.
- Mutu Vision will analyse the image and identify the item name, brand and model.
- Review the information and make any changes where needed
- Generate an Asset Tag using the app and if the item includes a serial number, snap a photo of that to import the detail automatically.
- Click “Add this item”
