The history
Janssen Contractors is a residential and commercial fit-out business running tools, plant and vehicles across active jobs at any one time. Before Mutu, information about what equipment and vehicles the business owned sat with individual team members rather than in one shared place, making it harder for the wider team to find gear quickly or know what was already on hand before hiring or buying more.
To address this, Janssen Contractors turned to Mutu to bring its equipment and vehicle register into a single, shared system. The rollout began in June 2025, with the bulk of the register built out over July and August as the team worked through cataloguing their tools, plant and vehicle fleet. Today, five team members, including Director Gus Janssen, share access to the same register.
Gus, Director at Janssen Contractors, says: “Having our equipment and vehicles in one shared place gives the team a much clearer view of what’s been recorded across the business. It means everyone has the same place to start when they need to find or request something.”
The opportunity
By bringing its register onto Mutu, Janssen Contractors gained one place to see everything it owns and request items when they’re needed. The register now encompasses more than 100 pieces of plant and equipment including:
- Power tools – including drills, impact drivers, skill saws, drop saws, routers, sanders, grinders and planers
- Fixing and framing tools — nail guns, bradders, powder-actuated tools, and rebar tie guns
- Measuring and layout equipment — laser levels
- Site support equipment — concrete mixers, air compressors, dehumidifiers, diesel heaters, water blaster, vacuums, light towers and a tipper trailer
- Vehicles — all staff fleet across the business

Gus adds: “Mutu has helped us turn the equipment register into something the team can actually use. They can see what’s listed and put through a request in the same system, giving us a more consistent process for coordinating equipment.”
Results
Janssen Contractors now has 125 equipment and vehicle listings and five active users recorded in Mutu, spanning everything from handheld power tools to its vehicle fleet. This has reduced the admin time relating to asset management by 60%.
With equipment and vehicles visible in one shared system, Janssen Contractors can make better use of the resources it already owns, reduce time spent tracking items down, and make more informed decisions before hiring or purchasing something new. As the register continues to grow, Mutu will support clearer coordination between team members and stronger equipment utilisation across the business.
On top of this, Janssen Contractors was one of the first businesses on Mutu to adopt the new Kiosk Mode feature. Since they have a single location where gear is returned or retrieved throughout projects, the Janssen team have used the Mutu Kiosk Mode to set up a tablet at that location. Staff can quickly search for and claim the equipment they need. They also use the tablet to record when equipment is returned. This quick process means that staff don’t need to worry about logins or passwords and creates a closed-loop system where gear is accurately tracked across the whole business.
Results achieved
- 125 equipment and vehicle listings centralised in one system
- Active Kiosk mode process for booking and returning gear
- Full visibility across power tools, fixing tools, site equipment and the vehicle fleet
- 60% reduction in equipment management time
