At Mutu, we believe that small actions can lead to big impacts. Every construction material reused instead of sent to landfill is a step toward a more sustainable construction industry through material reuse in construction. That’s why we’re excited to celebrate two more companies that have joined the Mutu 100 Tonne Club—a recognition of businesses that have successfully diverted over 100 tonnes of surplus materials using the Mutu platform.
Downer is a leading provider of integrated services in New Zealand and Australia, delivering innovative solutions across transport, utilities, and facilities. Their commitment to sustainability has seen them successfully divert over 100 tonnes of surplus materials through Mutu, ensuring valuable resources are reused instead of wasted. By embedding circular economy principles into their operations, Downer is driving meaningful change in the industry.
Auckland Construction Manager Ben Parsonage was really happy how things were progressing with Mutu and for his team to be recognised “Keeping materials out of landfill and reducing our impact on the environment is a critical focus of Downer at the moment. On top of this, Mutu has also helped us strengthen our position when bidding for work as we see more and more clients loving these type of sustainability initiatives on projects“

Dempsey Wood Civil is a civil construction company known for its expertise in earthworks, infrastructure, and land development. With a strong focus on sustainability and efficiency, they have also reached the 100-tonne milestone with Mutu. By repurposing materials across projects, Dempsey Wood is proving that sustainable construction is not just an aspiration but a tangible reality.
Environmental Manager Lachlan Ward knew that the team were onto a good thing with Mutu “We have always been good at sharing resources but Mutu makes this processes simpler and measurable. To have our work reusing materials recognised and to see the numbers we are achieving is just great for the team and our sustainability goals.”

Every tonne of material diverted reduces environmental impact and represents a win for both businesses and the planet. The Mutu 100 Tonne Club is more than just a recognition—it’s a testament to the real-world impact that companies can have when they embrace circular economy principles. The achievements of Downer and Dempsey Wood demonstrate that sustainable construction practices and material reuse is not just a goal for the future, but a reality we can build today.
