Mutu and NZCB Launch Exclusive Partnership to Put Construction Resource Management in the Hands of 2,300+ Builders

July 30, 2026

Mutu and New Zealand Certified Builders partnership

Following a successful pilot and strong member feedback, Mutu is now available to all New Zealand Certified Builders (NZCB) members at a heavily subsidised rate, making it easier for small and medium residential builders to track what they own, cut waste and save money.

Every year, New Zealand’s construction industry sends more than 1.6 million tonnes of waste to landfill, enough to fill Eden Park eight times over. Much of that waste is avoidable: resources across a construction company are bought, forgotten, and bought again because no one on site knows what the business already owns. Smaller residential builders are often hit hardest, without the systems, staff or spare capacity that larger firms use to track and reuse what they have. Closing that gap is central to what today’s partnership sets out to do.

Mutu, the New Zealand-founded platform that helps construction businesses track equipment, vehicles and surplus materials in one place, today announced an exclusive nationwide partnership with New Zealand Certified Builders (NZCB). The partnership gives all 2,000+ NZCB members access to Mutu at a heavily subsidised member rate, bringing a tool previously reserved for larger construction firms within reach of the small and medium-sized building businesses that make up the bulk of the industry.

The announcement builds on a pilot programme launched by Mutu and NZCB in 2025, which gave selected members in Auckland and Christchurch early access to the app to trial equipment tracking and materials reuse on their sites. That pilot generated strong engagement and feedback from participating members, prompting the two organisations to move quickly to make Mutu available to the wider NZCB membership.

“Championing sustainability within the residential construction industry is a key strategic priority for NZCB,” says NZCB Chief Executive Malcolm Fleming.

“Feedback from the Mutu pilot we ran last year confirmed that effective inventory management not only reduces construction waste but also improves productivity and profitability.

“Through this partnership, NZCB is pleased to make a sustainability tool, already proven in the commercial and infrastructure sectors, accessible to SME residential builders across New Zealand. The Mutu app will help them reduce waste, improve efficiency, and deliver better outcomes for their businesses and clients.”

“Mutu has always focused on the top end of the sector, working with larger construction firms to help them get more from what they own,” says Ben Redwood, Mutu’s CEO. “The pilot with NZCB showed us how much value smaller residential builders can get from the same approach. It’s the experience we’ve had with the NZCB team and its members that’s driven us to make this offering available. Their enthusiasm made it clear this partnership was worth pursuing and we’re excited to bring more of NZCB’s membership into a more circular, less wasteful construction industry across Aotearoa.”

What NZCB members get

  • One shared register for tools, vehicles and equipment, visible to the whole team
  • Access to Mutu’s materials reuse marketplace, an internal Trade Me for leftover materials
  • Toolkit and vehicle check-ins, sent whenever they’re needed
  • Maintenance and test & tag reminders, so compliance doesn’t rely on memory
  • A theft and insurance record, with photos, for every listed item
  • A running total of what’s saved by reusing gear and materials instead of buying or hiring new

Under the partnership, NZCB members can access Mutu for a discounted subscription price that offers significant savings, with the plan covering up to five team members, five sites and up to 60 pieces of equipment or vehicles.

What’s next

The subsidised member rate is available to NZCB’s approximately 2,300 members nationwide from today. Mutu and NZCB expect the rollout to significantly grow the number of small and medium builders across New Zealand tracking their equipment digitally and reusing materials between sites, building on the momentum of the pilot and adding to the growing list of NZCB members already using the platform, including Savory Construction, Urry & Burgess Construction, Janssen Contractors, PGC Constructors and Rhys Finlay Contractors.

NZCB members can find out more and get in touch to access the member rate at checkmutu.com/nzcb.
