The history
FSL Construction, a leader in fit-out solutions in New Zealand, has a strong history of delivering innovative and high-quality projects. Over the years, the company has grown to manage multiple sites simultaneously. However, this expansion brought about a new set of challenges: managing and optimising the use of resources (equipment, vehicles, and materials) across job sites all at once. The traditional approach of spreadsheets and phone calls led to logistical complexities, potential wastage, increased costs, and reduced construction administrative efficiency. To address these issues and enhance operational efficiency, FSL Construction turned to Mutu inventory management for help.
The opportunity
By signing up with Mutu, FSL Construction gained access to a comprehensive database of available resources within their network. This allowed them to easily manage, locate and request the tools and equipment needed for various projects without the need for additional purchases.

Through Mutu inventory management, FSL Construction could also offer their surplus materials to other sites, reducing procurement and disposal costs while keeping valuable resources out of landfill.
The platform’s user-friendly interface and real-time tracking capabilities ensured that resources were efficiently allocated and transported between sites, minimising downtime and maximising productivity.
The results
To date FSL is using Mutu to manage 380 pieces of equipment across 30 sites. Not only does Mutu make it easy for staff to find what they need quickly but Mutus’ Maintenance Schedule feature also ensures gear is safe to use on site. On top of this, FSL has used Mutu to repurpose more than $36,000 in materials between sites by making it easy for staff to list and view what others have left over on projects.
Since integrating Mutu into their operations, FSL Construction has witnessed a substantial improvement in resource and construction administrative efficiency. Nathan adds “Mutu has helped spread the load across the business where administration is concerned, enabling our Project Administrators to get through their work in half the time.”
The ability to share resources between sites has led to significant cost savings, reducing the need for new equipment purchases and lowered overall project expenses.
“The fact that our team can see all the stock in our warehouse and claim it straight from their phones has been very impactful. On one of our more recent jobs, the visibility that Mutu offered for the materials that had been bought back and put in storage meant we could double our margin by reusing things we already had. In a tight market, actions like that are huge”
